The outer shell of the HIPS hip-protector is made of a high-impact, shock-proof plastic material (nylon) to resist the significant forces released when a person falls. The soft rim is made of a rubber material for improved comfort. Note there is no direct contact between the plastic/rubber and the skin. The skin is only in contact with the cotton fabric for superior comfort. How It Works (click to enlarge photo) The hip protectors are placed in the inside pockets of the HIPS underwear in order to cover the hip bone (trochanter). The HIPS hip-protector system consists of one (1) pair of hip protectors and three (3) pairs of high quality underwear with special inside pockets. You can purchase additional HIPS underwear in order to make it a practical system for everyday use (your "wash cycle" = number of HIPS underwear you need).
